Did you know that 80% of Kauai is inaccessible? That means that some the most spectacular sights can only be seen from the air. The best way to see the island up close and personal is by helicopter. The major highlights of the island are spread out, and it takes a minimum of sixty minutes to see them.
Waimea Canyon (The Grand Canyon of the Pacific), Na Pali Coast (the fastest eroding coast in the world), Mt. Wai'ale'ale (Wettest spot on earth)... just to mention a few of the sights you would experience.

Year round we have fishing charters, windsurfing, surfing, scuba diving, snorkeling and boogie boarding. Romantic sunset sails, too.
In the summer months from May to October the Na Pali Coast is available to view from Zodiac rafts, sailboats or powered catamarans. You can enjoy everything from sightseeing, swimming and snorkeling to a picnic lunch on a secluded beach. You'll see dolphins, sea turtles and sea birds, sea caves and the incredible coastline.
Book before your arrival, as availability is limited.
In the winter months from November to April we like to recommend the tours along the south and southeast coastlines. These areas are calm and smooth. The Kipu Kai coast is a private area and is only accessible by boat. While the winter months can bring big surf on the north coast. You'll be glad that you're up close and personal when you see your first humpback whale.

We have 4x4 van tours that take you into the interior of the Island's mountains and canyon. For movie buffs, we have a movie tour that takes you to the locations of the many famous movies that were shot on Kauai.
Not to mention hiking, horseback riding, botanical gardens, the World famous Kilohana Estate, carriage rides and even a cattle ride.

Did you know that Kauai is the only Hawaiian Island with navigable rivers and waterways? You can take a riverboat cruise up the Wailua River to the Fern Grotto or kayak to a trail and hike to a hidden waterfall. You can even hire a ski boat and do a little water skiing!
There are a variety of luaus and special evens that take place around the island, depending on the time of year you are going to visit; farmers markets, craft shows, historical sites, beaches to explore, hotels to visit, and plenty of shopping!

In 1877, King Lelei-o-hoku died and the reign of King Kalakaua of Hawaii began. He took advantage of the opportunity to set up a mini-court on the island of Kauai. There had been a chorale group of 15 or so individuals, called the Ka-wai-hau Hui. The name Ka-wai-hau means ice water and was originally given to a white woman residing in Honolulu. She would not partake in the fiery gin that the King preferred but would sip ice water. The word Hui is used to describe a group of people and the word is still used frequently in every day language in Hawaii. The Ka-wai-hau Hui was sent to Kauai to establish agriculture benefits in the District of Puna, which covered the majority of the east coast of the island. The very same year the Puna district was divided into several small sections called a Ahupua'a. One of these were Kapa'a Pono.
The word Kapa'a can be literally translated to mean; solid . Pa'a Pono can be interpreted as a definite commitment or steadfast uprightness. A figurative meaning for this phrase would be to do the right thing with meaningful intentions.
Not much is known as to what was actually at the Pono Kai prior to 1913. It may have been a fishing ground. In 1913 a land grant was issued to Hawaiian
Canneries for their pineapple cannery. The cannery was called the Pono Cannery. The cannery operated for forty-seven years and was closed down in 1960. The cannery provided full-time jobs for many Kauaians and summer jobs for teen-agers. It's surprising to learn that so many people on the island today remember the expansive cannery. They speak fondly of watching the pineapples zip down the fields pulled by the mini-train. The lobby at Pono Kai has photographs of the cannery and other bits of interesting Hawaiian history. Plans to build the condominium project at Pono Kai began in 1975. The prefix Pono (constant) together with Kai (seas) formed the name of the 241-unit complex. The resort today is a majority of one and two bedroom timeshare vacation units and some whole ownership. Situated on beachfront property the resort has much to offer the Malihini (visitor) and the Kamaiana. The grounds of Pono Kai cover approximately 11 acres. Please stop by and visit our beautiful resort the next time you are on Kauai.
